Starring Paige Erin Turner and Scott Torvea
Backstory:
Paige had a few too many and tried to drive home, she hit a pedestrian walking his dog, neither survived. In the wake of a series of DUI accidents, the state charged her with both murder and animal cruelty, people go nuts for dogs so they got convictions on both charges, and a death sentence. Paige is not a hardened killer, she truly regrets hurting anyone and their dog, at the same time it was an accident and she doesn’t want to die for it.
Scene 1:
Paige, wearing an orange prison jumpsuit, is out of appeals and final preparations are underway for her electrocution. She is pacing in the medical exam room having her final conversation with her lawyer. We hear her side of the tearful conversation.
Paige – “So, there’s really nothing you can do? It was an accident, is there anyone else who can help me?”
She experiences a spark of hope as the lawyer tries to tell her its hopeless.
Paige – “Life in prison isn’t perfect but it’s better than death. Ok so the state parole board, what do they look for when commuting a sentence? I know you said they’ve never done it before, but what do the regulations say?”
Paige – “They want remorse, well I confessed, and have never tried to make excuses and I’m already a model prisoner, I just have to avoid giving the guards any trouble.”
The guard comes in and tells her that her phone time is over. She says good-bye and surrenders the phone to the guard . She is directed to strip naked, and sit on an exam table. The guard checks her breathing and heart rate, declares her healthy enough for execution.
She is given a simple white t-shirt and plane white panties to wear. She is led to the execution chamber to witness the testing of the chair. The chair has a large bucket of water with two wires in it. The guard says proceed, Paige is startled by the crackle of electricity, but nothing happens for a couple minutes, then the water starts boiling after 30 seconds of boiling the power is cut. Paige didn’t pay attention to how long it took the water to boil. She asks if it will be that quick. Scott replies “When the time comes it will.” He takes her to her cell.
Scene 2
Alone in her cell Paige spent her final hours in prayer, she is kneeling (praying a rosary) when the guard comes in and tells her it’s time. She finishes her final prayer, genuflects and stands. She is tearing up as she is cuffed, shackled and led to the chair.
Paige is choking back tears as she is strapped in, wrist, bicep, waist, and ankles. She lets out a fearful yelp as the cuff is secured around her calf. The guard reads her sentence and asks her to make a final statement. Paige pleads that she is sorry and did not mean to hurt anyone. He fits the gag and blind fold on the now crying inmate, then attaches the head piece and wires it. Paige sits tense in the chair, sobbing into the gag. Paige lets out a muffled wail of grief and fear as the guard nods to the executioner. The current starts. When the chair gets up to full power, she goes ridge and the gagged screams stop. Her head starts smoking because of the juice.
This electric chair is not an easy way to die, it takes 2-4 minutes to build up to lethal current (just like the water) during this period the inmate is writhing and trying to scream.
