The doctor feels and presses around her lower abdomen and she tells him it is tender. He continues to check her abdomen with pressure. Then he takes his stethoscope and listens as he presses on her stomach.
Next he takes her temperature at her forehead. Then he checks her legs temperature. He explains that he is just checking for a difference in temperature between each leg. After he measures the size of each leg at the calf. He explains what he is seeing and that it is nothing to worry about. As he does this he runs his nails up the soles of her feet to see her reaction. She reacts as she should.
ECG test
Finally he wheels out the electrocardiogram (ECG or EKG) machine. He wants to do a quick test to check the heartbeat. It records the electrical signals in the heart. Test results can help diagnose heart attacks and irregular heartbeats, called arrhythmias. With some of the things he noticed during the exam he just wanted to be safe.
The doctor finds the locations for the electrodes. Tracing down her chest to find V1 through V6. Then he places the electrodes for the arms and legs. Next he attaches the leads to their prospective electrodes and begins the test. In just a few moments the test is done and the results are recorded.
The doctor removes the leads and electrodes and tells her that he has all the information documented and does a quick check of her eyes, ears and throat. He lets her know that they need to schedule an eyes, ears and throat check as well as some additional tests based on what they find.
The doctor tells her that she can get dressed and thanks her for coming in. She thanks him as he leaves, then she starts to get dressed.
